Hi Ferdie, I am using a WD My Book Essential Edition 1 TB USB drive with the Touch and it works perfectly. If I put the Touch into screensaver (clock) mode by hitting the power button, the attached WD drive spins down after a few (maybe 10) minutes.
Reviews on Amazon say that the WD Elements drives have the same power saving feature, but I have not tried that specific WD model with the Touch.
