I have recently purchased the Touch and I have connected it with coax digital out to my DAC connected via XLR to a preamp/amp combo. I previously used a Receiver and I think the Touch is an affordable improvement, no doubt about it. I also noticed an improvement when going from SB3 to Receiver(also using digital out).
I have replaced the stock PSU of the Touch and the improvement was just as great as replacing the PSU for the Receiver and SB3. Before I used to decode my FLAC;s on the Squeezebox Server since it greatly improved the sound for both the Receiver and SB3. With the Touch there is very little difference, but at the moment I favor decoding the FLAC;s on the Touch. Decoding the FLAC;s on the Touch also improves performance of my rather slow NAS. I currently use "Screen Off" as screensaver for the Touch, but I think you will need to have a very high resolution system to hear this improvement. I remember favoring this setup with the SB3 as well. On the downside I failed to play my newly acquired high resolution album since it was a 24/192. I really hope there will be native support for 24/192 in the near future.
