Hello and Welcome to the Forum. With that said, your supposition doesn't hold water much less hold up in court. The Touch has a primary function to be a Network Media Player (NMP). It preforms this task very well. It is meant to be used with a Music Server running SBS. One of its features, not main function or purpose, is the limited use as its own standalone server.
Personally, I have been using mine as a standalone server for over 9 months now. And at least the last 6 months without any issues (the early time was first try Beta with issues). During that early time, I learned many things about what to do to make things easier, more reliable, and consistent. Now for the good part of the Forum, just about everybody here is willing to help each other. But one must ask for help (receive more help from asking, not complaining), have an attitude of taking instructions/hints and trying what is asked even if one doesn't think that is the problem. But to be able to help, we need a few things from you. Your exact setup, what you want to do and what you are doing? Your hardware involved and the format of your files as in MP3, FLAC, or a mix of what? Questions: Is the drive USB powered off the port or external powered? How large is the drive? How full is the drive? How is the drive formatted, FAT32, NTFS, ext2/3/4? Have you tried using a USB Stick to see if its the drive? Is the drive a USB spec certified drive? Lastly, if you are completely dissatisfied or don't want help or to try to resolve the issue, return your Touch before the 30 day trail is up for a full refund.
