Also let us not read TO MUCH into things either. USB powered USB drives
will work fine without a hub in most cases and more often then not if
said USB powered USB drive is a fully certified USB specification
drive. The Touch USB port is spec'd out to the published USB
specification. It will only provide so much current from the port. If
ones USB powered USB drive draws more then this spec on startup or
during operation, one is going to have problems! Period. I have had no
problem with the Toshiba line of USB powered USB drives all the up to
the 1TB model (I own a 320, 500, 640, and 1TB, my neighbors 750GB also
works).

The OP point is well taken that a reading of the manual will help with
many issues and shed light on questions that arise.
