First off I don't have a Passport so all I can help with is what others have said and what is on the WD web site. The modern versions of the Passport drives come with a virtual CD which is supposed to mount when you plug it into a windows PC. This will show up in your drive list as a CD. You can go to this virtual CD and install their "SmartWare" software on the PC which is used to control the drive. One of the things you can do with this is control the power modes. First off I would like you to run a test and see if the drive going to sleep causes the server to stop. You should be able to set the sleep time to 10 minutes in the smartware. Then disconnect from the PC and plug back into a running Touch. You should see the server start up and a message asking if you would like to watch whats happening (or something like that). Click on it. You should then see the scanner messages. Wait for the scanner to complete, then go back to the main menu and start playing some music. Play music for a while then stop playing music. Ten minutes later the drive should go to sleep. At this point wait a couple minutes and go to settings->advanced->squeezeboxserver and see if the server is still running. If its not running there is a pretty good chance its because the drive has disconnected itself from the USB port. If the server is still running, try playing music again, this should wake up the drive. Then stop playing music and wait for the drive to sleep again. Check the server status. If its running don't play anything and check the server status every so often (say every hour) and see what the server is doing. There MIGHT be a two stage sleep mode with a deeper sleep mode happening after a much longer time. If the server does die when the drive goes to sleep then you can either turn sleep off with the PC software, or get a different drive that doesn't disconnect itself when it sleeps. There are enough people who do have passports that don't have the server dying problem that it doesn't seem to be a universal issue. It seems to me it could be several things: the settings on the drive have been changed so they behave differently, different models in the passport line behave differently, or there is a difference between older and newer drives. Its hard to tell with current information which it might be.
