I agree. Although I'm using a vortexbox server, I would like to be able
to use my music collection standalone, e.g. for when I'm on holiday
(Touch + hdd + headphone).

I took my backup drive from the vortexbox server (only music files).
There are almost 19000 tracks on it. The drive is a bus powered Iomega
500 GB hdd. I attached the drive to my Touch and the Touch started
scanning. Files were discovered, databases build, and somewhere near
the end of the artwork scanning I did get a simple message that the
scanning could not complete because there was a problem. I can't see
any log files. So I'm stuck. (I repeated the whole thing after removing
the .Squeezebox folder: same result.)

The possibilities I see:
1. The drive is not supported. But if so, why all goes well till so
late in the scanning process?
2. Problems with artwork. But exactly the same collection works
perfectly well on my vortexbox machine.

The fact that there is no log makes it very difficult to find the
problem. Any pointers on what to do would help. As it is, I intend to
make a selection of my music for standalone use; that would most
probably work. But it would still be unclear why it won't work with a
music collection that works perfectly well on a) my vortexbox machine
and b) when attached to my Windows laptop.
