If you you are using a USB drive plugged into a Touch, the single image in the album folder means the scanner has a lot less work to do, which will significantly speed up the initial scan and MAY mean the difference between crashing and not. Embedded images will still slow down an external SBS when scanning, but since the whole process is probably much faster to begin with its probably not as noticeable. On the Touch builtin server image size is important, large images will crash the scanner. For many people its much harder to check a library full of embedded images than it is to check a single image sitting in a directory.
