This is true and for playback of HDCD or DTS via an external DAC this
is mandatory. However for other playback scenarios, we've established
beyond reasonable doubt that reducing the volume does not cause any
adverse sonic issues other than a slight rise in the signal to noise
ratio which is undetectable in almost all normal circumstances (having
your ear pinned to the tweeter doesn't count).
