Abit clearer now, I think.

My Touch is connected to my home network (ethernet) and is streaming
from my QNAP NAS which has SSOTS (Squeezebox Server on turbo Station)
and SBS v7.5.1.r8837. This is the version which wokrs perfectly with
the QNAP SSOTS v 4.9.1, accordning to QNAP website.

So you're saying in my cicumstances, my SBS in my NAS has downloaded
r9009 and sitting in cache on my NAS?

Will this Touch firmware upgrade, upgrade my SBS too? I do not want
that to happen as according to QNAP, r8837 is a perfect match or am I
missing something here :-(
