Bjorn as you've tried wiring it the buffering is probably caused by the nas. Streaming flac as flac should minimise the load on the nas. same for any other format, don't try to transcode it will make things worse. In the web gui you can set how sbs streams each file type.
your readynas appears to have 256 ram, couldn't find cpu details. with the 256 ram in my qnap i can stream individual flac files with artwork/tags fine, haven't tries images.
