I think this accurately sums up the situation.  I've read posts on
Synology forum that suggest I need to update the faad\sox exe's.  So,
that is my next step.

In the meantime I have executed on option #2 so I can at least enjoy
24/96 FLAC files.  WOW, they sound amazing!  I thought they were great
through my MF X-Can 3>AKG 701s but they went up another notch when I
connected to my den system (kit Consonance ELLA tube amp>Triangle Titus
202).  Even my wife and son were amazed at the sound of Steely Dan's
Groucho...and I have subjected them to lots of high end stuff over the
years.
