When trying to use aplay to play music you have to make sure that
squeezeplay is not connecting to it. If squeezeplay is connected then
you will get the "cannot set hw params" message.

This probably means that you have already changed the asound.conf to
point to the USB DAC. This is what you DON'T want to do if you want to
try aplay, since this tells squeezeplay to talk to the USB DAC.

So your best bet is to go back to the original asound.conf which should
prevent squeezeplay from opening the DAC. THEN you can try playing music
with aplay to the DAC.

Make sure you use the -v option with aplay, this will tell you what
format its actually using to talk to the DAC.

If it says its using S24_3LE you will need the new version of jive_alsa
I've thrown together. I'm working with two others right now to try and
get the kinks worked out.

Thanks,

John S.
