Nobody in this thread unless I missed it, and certainly not me ... I said "the hardware of the Touch is probably not powerful enough to handle a large library". If you read different forums, most customers say also the same thing, not all, but most of them, and Logitech stopped to advertise it. If you now say about number of tracks "I never said it was the only number to look at". All right, but what did you meant when you said "For the performance of TinySBS, and regular SBS for that matter, it's the number of tracks that matters, not the number of GB" ? The size of a library depends on the number of files and also on their sizes. I obviously know that the number of files does matter. I also say that the size very probably matters too because I had the opportunity to check it (and I won't check it again, it took me quite some time, and I should revert to 7.5.x versions). Don't tell me about knowing the code. Any experienced programmer knows that even with his own code, a problem may arise from something totally unexpected he never thought about before, and was never showed by his tests, before someone else point it out. In my tests 1/ I used exactly the same library on the same external HDD I use for SBS to test TinySBS (yes I erased the TinySBS directory before starting each test). 2/ At that time, my library had almost no artwork (I started very recently to add them, and I am far to have finished). 3/ I made different tests using similar files with no artwork (I had almost none) and similar tags, differing mainly in their sizes, differing by format (flac vs mp3), or not, to test subsets of my library. That lead me to conclusions about total size vs number of files, flac vs mp3, and I do consider that number of files matters, and that file size and total size also matters. That's why I say that Garym's brother with a lot of mp3 is a specific situation, and that he probably rarely disconnect the usb device or add files to the library. Or he is a very very patient person and accept to wait for rescan times few people would accept. Or he doesn't complain because he really wants Garym to be happy about his Touch setup (this sort of things happen ...) As far as my USB stick is concerned, the same usb stick with same content (flacs 16/44.1) was fine with 7.5.1, don't remember with 7.5.2, broken with 7.5.3 et 7.5.4 RC, fine with 7.6 I tried to use only 6 of those files without artwork on the usb stick for 7.5.3 et 7.5.4 and TinySBS was still broken ... (reformated the stick and copied tested files before each test) It is fine with 7.6 even if I add artwork and 24/96 flacs (just one bug in the current 7.6 version when you browse by folder). I read the thread about mastering TinySBS. I don't want to have to tune the stuff in order to get acceptable result. Anyway, nothing really prevents unexpected rescans, which take far too much time to be acceptable for a normal user, especially when it occurs when you want to listen to music, not wait ... May be I'll try again when 7.6 is official if my library works fine as it is. I don't want to adapt it to TinySBS -- nicolas75 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ nicolas75's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15823 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=86446 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
