It's not exactly heavy duty customization, but obviously it's your choice whether you want to get into that. However, the Touch's hardware resources are borderline for a large library, and if you don't tune or adapt to that fact -- or switch to a separate server solution or a different network music system entirely -- I think you're in for continued frustration.
