I think you're making a couple of erroneous comparisons here. First,
MediaMonkey is running on your laptop, not your NAS. Squeezebox Server
(SBS) should also run fine on your laptop, so where is the
inefficiency?

Second, MediaMonkey and SBS are very different programs. MM is an
all-purpose media management, ripping, tagging, playing tool. SBS does
pretty much one thing: stream data from a digital music library to one
or more Squeezeboxes. As far as I know MM plays exactly one stream to
one player, no more. SBS, on the other hand, can send different streams
to different SBs, or send the same stream to multiple SBs and have them
play in perfect sync. It's comparing apples and grapefruit.
