Why the hell would he need using SSH and obscure UNIX commands?
The Syno has a web interface for setting it up, just use it. And the Touch has its own interface, too. What he needs to do is: 1. Plug both the Syno and the Touch with an Ethernet cable to his router 2. Deactivate the DHCP service on his router 3. Look for 2 IP addresses that are outside of the DHCP server's range (reduce the range, if needed). Also check what's the router's IP address from there (probably something like 192.168.x.1) 4. Connect to the Syno's admin web UI and change network settings from DHCP to static. Use one of the 2 addresses found at 3/ 5. Reset the Touch to factory default. Will goes through the network setup again, and being unable to catch an IP address from the DHCP server, will ask for manual configuration. Use the other IP address found at 3/. 6. He's done As long as they're connected to the router, both the Syno and the Touch will be able to access servers over the Internet or other machines on the local network. Plug them together (which may require a crossover cable), and they'll still see each others. Another, even simpler, solution would be to deactivate the DHCP server running on the router and activate the one the Syno probably offers (it would however require a static IP configuration in this scenario). Back to when I was beta testing the Touch, I was working away from home and had no Internet connection. Most of my tests were made with the Touch being directly connected to a laptop computer. It just works. ;) -- sebp 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/sebp) ------------------------------------------------------------------------ sebp's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11768 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=89735 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
