Since you had a SB3, that also means you were using a computer running the Squeezeboxserver program.
Why don't you use the Touch with the external computer? It is no secret that using the Touch's built-in tiny-SBS program with an external USB drive is wildly problematic. Logitech hasn't advertised the Touch's USB port as anything more than a convenience for flash drives for about year.
