2) if you're running LMS then you can ignore mysqueezebox.com. But if
you want to use online music services that require login credentials
you do need to have a mysb.com account and put your credentials there,
and in the mysqueezebox.com tab in LMS Settings. LMS will check with
mysb.com in the background if you try to connect to something like
Rhapsody for example.  

3) Squeezeboxes generally do check periodically to see if a server is
available. I believe that is by design, to help it recover from a
dropped connection.

It sounds as if your computer may be set to wake up on any network
traffic, which is more sensitive than you want or need. In most cases
it is better to set the computer to wake only if it receives the
specific wake-on-LAN "magic packet". 

This setting is usually changed in the computer's BIOS (the setup
screen that is available before the computer boots fully), although I
understand that on Windows 7 the setting is available in Win7's power
management settings.
