no comment on upgrading family ;-)

but I'd install 7.7.1 following my instructions and update the touch
firmware. Then I'd turn OFF all autoupdate functions, notifications,
etc.  This is the sort of thing that would drive your family crazy. 
Anyhow, updating immediately with SbS/LMS software is rarely the right
thing to do. (and I'd say this is true of Apple stuff, windows stuff,
etc....  with early adoption comes pain.)  I always wait a while for
the immediate potentially disastrous problems either don't appear or
have a quick .x update to fix (see for example, 7.6.0 disaster).
