The HK 3390 is an all analog  stereo receiver and does not have a A/D
encoder like most home theatre 5.1 channel AVR's.  So you can use the
analog connections without re-digitizing the SBT analog output signal
signal.  Unlike most AVR's out there many H/K AVR's can pass a pure
analog signal as long as you don't use any surround (Dolby, DTS or
Logic 7)
