Personally, I found that uncompressed FLAC sounds (marginally) better to
my ears than level 5 compression, which I had been using for a while.
The newest version of dbpoweramp lets you choose uncompressed, and that
is what I now use for all my rips. I acknowledge that whether or not
there are audible differences among compression settings is
controversial, but it's easy enough to compare a few files with
different compression ratios by yourself. If you detect no difference,
you will have saved yourself a few dollars in storage space and possibly
a little time in faster rips. ;-)

The optical drive in the VBA is useful even if you don't rip from it,
for example when updating Fedora from an ISO disc or booting from a disc
as I had to do recently to change the loading cycle of the hard drive,
as mentioned in my prior post.
