garym and pall freeman, I won't disagree with you, you are probably both
correct. But I don't see the relevance to my problem.

As noted, if I reset to factory default and start again, I have no
problem connecting to ethernet, and (under ethernet info) I get the
address and subnet mask expected (and the Touch connects to mysb), so
the issue does not seem to be there.

I tried starting from factory settings with the router disconnected from
the phone line. After "connected to ethernet" I got "connecting to
DelphiMac" (that's the name of my computer, and then a message that it
could not connect. Made me wonder if communication from that MAC address
to my computer was blocked. But I certainly did not block it, and it
can't have been blocked originally, since I got a connection at first.

And turning off incoming and outgoing firewalls does not give me a
connection.
