FWIW my experience with a VLink II USB to SPDIF converter was that SQ varied depending on the DAC. With my prior DAC, a Cambridge Audio 840-C, I preferred the converter connection. With my current DAC, a DSPeaker Dual Core, I prefer the straight SPDIF connection.
