The USB you refer to I assume is a USB Connected external Hard Drive that you are connecting directly to the TOUCH. Connnecting the USB HDD to your router will likely not work. The vortexbox is just a PC (without a monitor or keyboard) running a fedora linux operating system that is tuned for running media programs such as the Logitech Media Server (LMS). With the USB HDD attached to the TOUCH you are using "tinyLMS" inside the Touch. With the Vortexbox (or any PC or Mac running LMS) you are using full size, full performance LMS. This typically works much better (faster browsing, searching, scanning, etc.). Plus you can use certain plugins with full LMS. You can test the difference without buying the VB. just install LMS on your Mac. Then in the TOUCH switch to the music library from the Mac LMS. If you don't leave the Mac on 24/7, then it might make sense to have the Vortexbox server (I personally use a VB server). But if the Mac is always around, you can just as easily just run LMS on your Mac. You might try that for a while before moving to a dedicated server. (and again, I'm a fan of a dedicated server like the VB, but there's nothing magical about it other than the fact that it is always there and always on). p.s. If you buy or build the VB, you don't need to rerip your CDs. Just copy your current files over to the correct directory on the VB (//storage/music/flac). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98291 _______________________________________________ Touch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
