I am very new to this forum and definitely do not want to start a controversy, but just offer my own experience. I have a Vortex box that I put a 3T WD red Drive in. I have all my media files on it and the SBT, Laptop,desktop, Nexus 7, Audio/Video Streamer etc can all access it. The Vortexbox is hardwired in, but all other devices are wireless.
