It isn't powered permanently anyway. It's switched on and off by a
latching relay that is controlled by the car's central locking, this way
it starts booting up before I've even got into the car, and by the time
I'm ready to drive the car it's ready to go without having to wait every
time. The car has PKE (Passive Keyless Entry),which locks the car, sets
the alarm and powers down the SBT every time I walk away from the
car.Unless it's a short stop and I don't to wait for it to boot up again
if I've just quickly popped into a shop for a couple of minutes,I press
a button which stops it from switching off the SBT for just one
lock/unlock cycle. When I start the engine the next time it resets it and
takes it back to the normal on/off every time with the central locking
function. The SBT is powered by a good 5 volt regulator and an
electrolytic capacitor on both the input and output of the regulator,so
the supply to it is as isolated from the rest of the car's electrical
system as it's possible to be.
