I experienced something similar after a power outage recently. Mine came back on after I restarted the SBT with everything (i.e. including the USB DAC) plugged in and coonected, then updated the kernel again. Every long while, when I have some changes in my network or plugging and unplugging certain things, my SBT sometimes go nuts, and I, like you do, just try different combinations of restarting/reloading and with luck, things usually turn out fine.
