Hmm avoid that mode sounds like marketing hype to me :) The signal is already in the digital domain so just dont use the tone controls or another DSP mode avaible ,but just the sub filter it's also also done in the DSP . If everything is set to "flat" that would yield the same result the DSP is transparent . That pure mode can be seen as a shortcut to just turn of the DSP mode and set tone controls to zero etc . You can do something similar yourself program you AV receiver to only use front channels and sub aka 2.1 for the SBT input and dont preselect any DSP mode for that input . In many AV products some kind of faux 5.1 stereo or other algorithm is the default . They sometimes works really well , but this is not always wanted . Having stereo as default is good then such DSP modes can be chosen if needed . More benefits on avoiding the "pure mode" , you can use the tone controls if some less than stellar recording is on the menu . And if the AV product have some kind of digital room compensation . then benefit of using it far outweigths any benefit any "pure mode" will have . So it might be a better idea to fully utilise your products abilities . The DRC component can be a bit finicky to setup if one is a bi obsessive with Hi-Fi . But if you get it work well your rewarded with very good sound quality on any source . You migth want to keep several presets for different purposes . Just see it as another set of tools to get your acoustics and the recordings to perform better in real life . The audiophile nonsense of removing tone controls, balance,DRC subwoofer output etc is mainly aiming at a non existent ideal situations . Your listening to a perfect recording in perfect room acoustics . This does not happen very often . And having the sub is a great enhancement , getting the really low bass on some records . -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
