I've been running FreeNAS 0.7.2 Sabanda (revision 5543) and SlimNAS/LMS for years without issue. You don't have to use the photo and media parts - they can be switched off. LMS 7.8 & 7.9 really do bring some worthwhile improvements - there's plenty of info on them on this forum.
