Hi, absolutly crazy...
One of my Touches - the one which is always in use on my desk - also had the IR Problem. There was nearly no reaction on the commands. Yesterday I read the post saying to check the PSU - what I just did. Incredible but IR worked perfect! So before you try to repair the IR sensor maybe it's wort it to try changing the PSU.
