Problem could be the settings within the router. Is Touch wired or WiFi? Guessing WiFi. Is new router set to G mode? Or N+G? Touch cannot see or use N WiFi.
Touch won't become obsolete for decades (if ever) in reference to networking. The original WiFi B has been around for 16 years and is still offered on WiFi routers (though rarely used). The much more widely used WiFi G will be around for decades.
