This is a bit of a variable as some people experience problems and some
don't.

Suck it and see.

Here is the pi I'm running at the moment, stuck behind the telly.

A case might help,and I do have some, somewhere.

On the raspberry forum some folk complain about over-heating, but it's
unlikely to be a problem with running LMS and I have never experienced
it.

I would suggest just using the SBT to start with, see how you get on
with it, then decide how you want to expand/change the system.

Some good advice from Shozzer.

I don't bother much with the music I have ripped (just a change of
taste/use and preference).

When I did the ripping I used dBpoweramp and ripped to flac and wav at
the same time (the wav was for a backup, you will need a backup!).

As you have already some files prepared, I would just use those to begin
with, get the equipment set up and operating to your satisfaction, then
explore the various options and decide with which one you wish to
proceed.

Just go "softly,softly......cachee..." to begin with...or not
