OK, sorted with opening the unit without any damage. Nothing really serviceable in there as I had suspected but wanted to follow the voltage trail from the power socket. While doing so, the unit woke up and is working once again.
Unfortunately the intermittent buzzing sound is back, solved only by unplugging the Touch for a while.
