The rulers used for scale in the photos show that there is alignment
between two plastic stubs on the back of the front panel and two
openings near where the screws were removed to take off the metal base. 
Can you push something through these openings and force the front panel
away from the surrounding enclosure?  You may need to  insert the edge
of a credit card into any gap you create in order to keep this gap open.
Use a second credit card to move outward from the gap you created.  As
you move, the front panel should release.  Take care not to insert the
credit cards too far into the Touch or you run the risk of disloging a
component part or ribbon cable.
