Hi,

I'm a 23 year old CS student from Germany and stumbled upon your GSoC
offering and it caught my interest. Especially the web based client
project is very appealing. I tried the game but I somehow got lost and
couldn't figure out how to play it. I hope this fact doesn't
disqualify me already :-).

I have some experience with web development:
* I know my way around HTML/CSS
* I wrote some JavaScript stuff (including AJAX technology)
* I implemented PHP code that interfaces with various affiliate
programs (amazon and a german real estate portal)

I'm very interested in writing a web based user interface for strategy
games. I already tried a couple of things based on my favourite game
Starcraft:
* http://soa-world.de/dev/release1/release1.html a very simple
prototype, basically cloning parts of the Google maps functionality
* http://www.soa-world.de/dev/release2/echelon.php?demouser another
prototype with units that can move and bunkers
Please note that those are only a few hundred lines of code and
rudimentary. I just wanted to find out what can be done. So I'm by no
means an expert but want to learn how it can be done.

I would first like to understand how the game works and play it for a
while to get a feeling for what is required and what makes sense in a
web UI. After I get an idea of how it works I could put together some
requirements for the web based user interface. I then would probably
have to prototype and find out how the game can be accessed and to
determine the best architecture. I already glimpsed at libtpproto-php
- this would probably be the way to go for me.

Is there a guide somewhere that describes how to play the game? A
video was mentioned - how/when/where can it be accessed?

Best regards,
Seb
