I thought, what the hell, I'll give it a whirl right now.
And it seems to work alright! We should probably give it some more time,
but it looks good. I used a clean 1.3.x Subversion checkout from revision
18687 to apply the patch to, and then followed David's recipe.
(I still wonder why other people haven't been able to reproduce it,
though.)
