I'm trying to use easy_install as suggested. I tried installing Genshi first
and then I realized I have never used Genshi before. I have no way of
verifying whether what I did actually correctly installed Genshi or not. How
can I check this? While we're at it, can someone point me to a command or
two to run to make sure trac itself has been installed properly? I will
install svn independently rather than using the all-in-one installer and
I've used svn before so I think I know how to test that one myself.

Thanks for all the help.

Just for the record : *This is not related to Trac*

Trac uses svn by default due to historical reasons (and popularity ?).
Nowadays Trac is able to access the source code managed by many VCS
(commercial and FOSS ;)

On Windows I only needed to type

{{{
$ easy-install -z Trac
}}}

instead of

{{{
$ sudo apt-get -y install trac
}}}

and that's it (i.e. including deps e.g. Genshi ;) . The only drawback
is the bizarre uninstall procedure (handled more easily if using
Windows installers ;)

SVN is a separate package and is not shipped with Trac on Windows

Add the path to svn bin folder to PATH

... oh yes ! Mostly irrelevant (I used and still use from time to time
;-/ Windows since many years ago ;) ...

The most traumatic situation is when you 'r a convinced Windows user
since long time ago and move forward to try Vista and suddenly find
out that ... *85% of windows apps dont work*

Great ! Mr Vista in action ! How could people expect to run soft made
for Linux if they (i.e. MS) dont even respect the fact of being
compatible with previous OS versions and leave you without any chance
for fixing it (i.e. no source code) ? Welcome to Windows-land !
