Thanks for the info, I am in no way an electronics engineer, just an old 
retired railroader, building electronic  things and soldering is not my cup 
of tea, if I can't get it already made, then it most liklely won't happen, 
one the other hand if one needed a railroad track built, I'm your man.

  The mic can be used when the radio isn't in data mode. Some of the
  "remote" functions on the mic no longer work... but there's a cable
  inside the radio that can be disconnected that restores some of the
  functions. Look for postings from me and others on the list from a
  couple of years ago. Search for something like "remote mic functions".
