Slightly off topic, but I was cleaning out the garage last weekend and found the original receipt for this radio from 1994. I can't believe I paid $570 for it!
A comparable radio like the Yaesu FT-8800 goes for $360, today. My, how things have changed since then...at least some of them for the better. Back on-topic, I did end up getting a tracker 2 (should be here soon), but I'm not going to put it in the car just yet. I ordered cables for my HT and FT-857 (HF/VHF/UHF) rigs, which are my "portables" for now. When I decide to mount something in the car permanently, I think I'll go with Lynn's advice and get a dedicated VHF radio for just the APRS. --bob K7RBW
