I can read and write using a serial cable with null modem and gender changer;
several CR's and the Argent Data Systems banner comes up. I see the list of
commands when I type help at the cmd: prompt. Setting on both my Windows PC
and my Linux Workstation is 4800 baud, 8E1.

When starting the FC301D program; it starts and runs under Windows XP but not
under WINE for Linux.

FC301D always returns an error message when I use the "read" icon. In other
words it is not connecting to the radio.

The cable used to connect is the Argent Data Systems pre-made cable, with a
black DB9 on one end and a yellow DB9 on the other end, with power leads.

Power leads have been terminated in PowerPoles.

Power source is a common 12 volt gel cell for testing purposes at this time.

I need to program the radio ... is there a way to do the radio programming
without using the FC301D application -- which does not seems to work -- the
English used is not very clear, either but then I couldn't say anything in
Chinese, so that's not a big deal. Perhaps I've not connected the serial
cables correctly?

My plan is to use this radio and tracker combination to drive a 30 watt solid
state amplifier and be deployed in a portable configuration for use as an
emergency services digi-peter.

Any advice on how to set up the tracker as an effective digi-peter?
