Hi Curt,

Typically, WIDE1-1, WIDE2-1 is a bit friendlier. WIDE2-2 adds an extra hop
which usually isn't really needed if you get to the first DIGI. I ran from
NH-AR-NH twice last summer. If there was a DIGI: I hit an IGATE. The extra
hop would have reached out to 250 miles plus most of the time. In some
cases, I hopped that far anyway just because of the coverage of some DIGIs.

The 5/8 should work very well for you.

Corvette?

Laptop? You might try APRSIS32 (32 is the PC version).

You will need to hover over all the points you intend to travel to for it to
grab the maps.

Best regards,
Fred

Thanks Brian:

Yes..that section of I10 is pretty barren! Once per month we go from Detroit
to Bradenton and back...leave here Thursday evening..back here on Monday
evening. We'll be interested to see how it works out. Also plan on using an
imbedded map from aprs.fi during our summer tour which will range from NH
down the East coast to Atlanta West and North from Minneapolist down thru
Kansas, OK, and TX and pretty much alot in between. Approx 15,000 miles from
Late June to Mid August.

Thanks..I'll post results here after the test this weekend.

System is OT2/Nuvi 350 and a Kenwood TM-241A feeding a homebrew 5/8 wave for
now...might change antennas but this one has worked well when vehicle
grounding was less than adequate--like a bike. Our vehicle for the summer
has a fibreglass body.
