When I go on an extended road trip, I "set and forget" at WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2. If I know I'll be in an area of good coverage for a few days, I do use the Nuvi350 to command the T2-135 to drop to WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1.
If you're interested in coverage in North America, browse the plots at http://tinyurl.com/APRSAct00 - 2 weeks cumulative activity http://tinyurl.com/APRSAct24 - 24 hour activity Using those, you can predict where you'll be heard and where you won't. You might have to zoom in to see the details. Lynn (D) - KJ4ERJ - APRS Infrastructure Visualization PS. These are served via the CoralCDN Content Distribution Network. They may be slow on the first hit, but as you and others view the pages, they get cached on MUCH faster servers than my origin server.
