However, that said, most editing for TPL will remain the same but state Medicaid programs will also have the opportunity to use 270/271 real time inquiries to other payers for TPL verification purposes. Also at some time in the future, trading partners may agree to use the X12 269 Coordination of Benefits Payment Verification Request and Response transaction set and hopefully it will become a covered transaction under HIPAA.
