Wow, nice project.
I am aware of another project in the same direction, though it is not free.
Source is available for $$$'s
http://americancoders.com/ has a Java based EDI translator that is driven
with XML files and can put out XML or connect to JDBC aware databases or
.......
Then there is www.edidev.com . They have a very nice object oriented API for
VB et alii

www.etasoft.com has an EDI X12 parser Control for $14.- It works great,
though you have to write your own logic and tie in the IG's.
They also have a great EDI Editor, also for $14.-  No more adding Carriage
returns into EDI.

With all these projects though: There is no panacea, you still have to
understand what is going on and you have to do the heavy lifting, meaning to
say you have to tie EDI into your business rules.  No piece of software
takes that task over.  (But consultants might help)
