The various X12 list serves vary in how much they are used: some WGs use them more than others. Generally, they don't have the tradition of being used for long discussions as do the WEDi/SNIP list serves. I'd suggest contacting the WG Co-Chair directly to see if that WG uses their list serve. Start at www.x12.org - Committee/Groups - Subcommittees - X12N and work your way down from there. I'd suggest that you read some of the documents on www.x12.org to help you understand how X12 works. Unfortunately it is too complex to go into in a single email. Suffice it to say that X12 develops consensus-based EDI standards for many industries (finance, transportation, DOD, education, warehousing, etc) of which health care is one. Implementation guides are developed from the Standard by whomever is interested in putting in the work. Participation is voluntary. To truly understand X12 you'd need to go to a couple of meetings. An awesome amount of work gets done at these meetings: Imagine 50+ meetings happening simultaneously and you'll begin to get an idea of an X12 meeting. Hope this helps. Jan

I applied to that listserv, and have heard nothing back as yet. This is not to point the finger at anyone here, but simply as a lead-in for my current question.I'm unfamiliar with the overall process of creating the IG's, and how they relate to the corresponding standards as far as who has authority over their content, etc. I was about to resubmit a request to be added to the ASCX12 listserv for the 276/277, when I began to wonder if that really was the appropriate forum for questions regarding the IG's.Can someone here who is familiar with the process and/or organizational structure provide some guidance here? Is ASCX12 the appropriate body to which to take questions and issues regarding the Health Care-specific Implementation Guides? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me get a better understanding.Hal Scoggins |
