The PER segment with
contact information has several manifestations within the HIPAA required
transactionsets.
In the 837, 834,
278, 270 and 271, I can have Email, Phone, and Fax in each of the Elements
4,6 and 8. Extension in 6 and 8. They way it should be.
In the 835 I can
have Email and Phone in Element PER-03 and PER-05, so I don't have to choose
between the two. Less flexible then the first group, but
functional.
In the 276/277, I
have to make a choice to either transmit the phone or the email address, because
those qualifiers, EM and TE, are only valid in Element
PER-03.
This is an issue
that should be addressed. This is an unnecessary
restriction.
