Subject: HIPAA Exemption
I work with a dermatology office(with fewer than 10 FTE)who currently files
eletronically ONLY to Medicare. They have no other insurance contracts. The
practice is considering switching to paper claims for Medicare to avoid the
HIPAA regulations (Transactions and Code Sets and Privacy).
As they currently submit eletronic claims to Medicare, will making the
switch to paper make them exempt from the HIPAA requirements?
Thank you for your responses.
