Hi guys :)

Here's a case study for translation situations.

GNOME is releasing on the 6th September, an auspicious date. Today
they announce that their release-notes need translating. (I wonder
when they'll ask us to translate the Press Release...)

The release notes are available [1] as 6 separate DocBook XML files,
plus a directory of images.

So, Pootle would need to be able to access that module in Gnome CVS
(will be SVN as soon as they can do the switch), merge last year's
translation against those files for languages into which it has been
translated before, and serve up a single PO file, or separate PO
files, for translation, for all the languages available.

Three things make this a useful case study:

1. the time element: we have 3 days to go from new CVS module to
completed and committed translations.

2. the formats: the previous translations are available as one PO
file, but the current files are 6 DocBook files; we need the previous
translation merged against these files, and we need the merged file
(s) up and translatable (po4a can do the conversions).

3. the images: language teams will want to provide their own
screenshots, and will need to upload them into their own /figures
directory, then commit them.

How realistic is this for Pootle? If it isn't realistic now, what do
we need to do to make it workable, say, for the next release in 6
months?
