Hi,
We're currently setting up a Pootle service for translators of our
software, Sympa (see http://www.sympa.org).
We were previously using Rosetta and had started a new development when
we heard about Pootle.
Pootle has very original features such as the terminology. Others are
also appealing (translators comments, goals) but they don't seem to be
documented and therefore we were not able to use them.
We've noted a few usability issues, listed below :
* navigation within a PO file was broken (I created a bugzilla
ticket for this one)
* when using the search feature, the searched expression should
remain in the search box, otherwise user might get lost with the
context (I've added a bugzilla ticket)
* when browsing a PO file (All projects > Sympa > FR > sympa.po) no
way is provided to list fuzzy/untranslated entries. Only the
previous page provides this through the "show editing functions".
* statistics printed on the project page (and then on the
project/language page) seem to count words, whereas it seem to me
that counting entries would be more natural. Is this customizable ?
* the terminology used for editing is not very explicit ("quick
translate" and "translate all"). "Quick translate" seem to mean
"Translate missing and fuzzy entries".
Apart from that, the user interface is really nice.
We have some performances issues on our server (bi-Xeon, 1.6Gz, Mem:
4Gb). Pootle becomes very very slow while editing sympa.po (1600 entries
in the catalog). I tried installing PyLucene without success. We will
have a try with Apache proxy feature.
I'm worried about this. Any advices to solve this problem ? Would
PyLucene be a solution ? Should we split our PO files in smaller pieces ?
Thanks
