You mean a subset of the PO files ie filtering while editing as apposed
to before?

Depends. Counting words gives a better idea of how much work remains,
counting strings doesn't give as good a guide. But it can be confusing
I guess if its only 1 fuzzy string but you suddenly see 20 fuzzy words.
Strings is probably a better guide on fully translated work that needs
to be updated.
No its not customisable, although it might be if you change the HTML
template.

That is exactly what quick translate does.

Since we cache the file, large files will degrade performance.
Splitting it will help, as we've struggled to nail down the problem.
PyLucene is just for indexing, it should make searching and access
faster when your doing for instance a 'quick translate' but it won't
speed up other things.
